BalletBums Locations Medway Selina John

I began ballet training at age 2.5 under the RAD syllabus and immediately fell in love with all things ballet. I continued under with the same teacher for 14 years and I then went on to complete my national diploma in Performing Arts. I began teaching small children and adults as well as performing in shows and auditioning like crazy. At 22 I sadly broke my foot and whilst I continued to dance commercially and for events, I decided to step away and went into the financial services and payments industry at 23. A complete change!

Just before our 2020 lockdown, I decided to take a career break after having my second baby and the challenges this faced in me doing such a big job with two children. I came across Ballet Bums and I felt like it was fate. I could go back to the one thing I’ve always loved and teach in such a relaxed, fun environment whilst empowering women with their fitness! This is all about feeling good and learning what I think, is the most beautiful form of dance along the way.

“BalletBums couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. I love how versatile the classes are and the fact that anyone, any shape and any size can participate and realise how great ballet is for the body and the mind.”

“Once you are at the barre that it is all you concentrate on, so all of the every day baggage has to be left at the door. Corrections are given without humiliation! I always feel energised after class and just wish I could start every day with 60mins in Emily’s studio!””
