Bio.

BalletBums Location Plymouth Bella

At the age of 8 I was accepted into my local theatre company, during this time I was mainly an ensemble character/dancer, except for Bugsy Malone where I also played Lena Marelli (the funniest roles I’ve ever played!). After a 12 year break from acting and dancing to focus on studies, I joined Hartley House Dance Club in 2016 as a late starter, adult dancer. Although I had studied some ballet as a child during my time with the theatre, it was still a very long break and almost like starting all over again. In the few years I have been apart of the company, I fell back in love with all things dance related! In 2017 I started studying my adult ballet exams, to which I was awarded a distinction. In 2018 I (very nervously) auditioned for Oliver! with the Sterts Theatre Company in Liskeard, Cornwall. I was given the role of Bet. As a character, Bet is usually quiet however, in our production we made her a feisty, big sister to the Fagan gang. In rehearsals, I was also dance captain and helped with dance numbers alongside the choreographer. In the autumn of 2018 I joined Plymouth Theatre Company. In their recent shows I have been an ensemble dancer (including learning a tap routine from 42nd street – which I wasn’t very good at and definitely looked like Monica from F.R.I.E.N.D.S in the back haha) and more recently, played Violet in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

In 2019 I opened DMT Sports Therapy. I specialise in performance arts injuries and exercises (although everyone is welcome). I strive to make a place where my clients feel understood, appreciated and safe. As part of my business I aim to always keep up to date with the latest research in injury prevention, massage techniques and exercises. What makes me different from all other sports therapy businesses in the area? I’m unique!

I offer services that are different to others, such as, vocal massage (a gentle specialised technique that helps relax the muscles in your neck. Fantastic for teachers, singers, actors, telephone workers, anyone who talks all the time) and I try to use the hobby you love as a way of treating injuries, for example, my ball fitness classes are a fabulous way of helping to improve muscular strength, flexibility and balance.

This uniqueness lead me to BalletBums! I absolutely love the classes! They’re fun, tiring and sweaty (even for the instructor haha). BalletBums takes the stigma out of ballet, throws the rulebook out of the window and has turned it into a cardio workout that anyone and everyone can enjoy! They’re simple steps that are easy to follow! But more importantly, it’s a small exercise class that’s more about having fun with your friends.

Come along to a class, join in the fun I can’t wait to meet you =)

“Once you are at the barre that it is all you concentrate on, so all of the every day baggage has to be left at the door. Corrections are given without humiliation! I always feel energised after class and just wish I could start every day with 60mins in Emily’s studio!””
